There are two HE-AAC profiles, as described in the Wikipedia article on AAC (consulted in February 2011): (1) High Efficiency AAC Profile defined in 2003, uses AAC-LC, SBR, and (2) High Efficiency AAC v2 Profile, defined in 2006, uses AAC-LC, SBR, PS. PRONOM has no corresponding entry as of July 2022. Support for user-defined sounds, samples, and patchesįile type signifiers and format identifiersįor the LC-AAC codec (RealAudio 9) this fourcc code will appear in the RealAudio_10 file wrapperįor the HE-AAC codec (RealAudio 10) this fourcc code will appear in the RealAudio_10 file wrapper. Good promotional literature says that this codec provides "the highest quality listening experience for consumer music services." RealMedia promotional literature states "for consumer music services, as well as easy transfer and playback compatibility to the extensive range of portable and mobile devices that support AAC." The Wikipedia article on RealAudio (consulted February 15, 2011) states that the codec is MPEG-4 HE-AAC (see Notes below). Audio compression codec recommended by RealMedia for use when delivered bitrates greater than 128 kb/s. ![]()
